In the absence of a new Star Fox game from Nintendo themselves, some super-dedicated fans of the series have taken their stead. In what may end up being the coolest example of trademark infringement ever, a team of hardcore Star Fox lovers are creating a brand-new standalone PC game titled “Shadows of Lylat” using the Freespace Open engine.

Fox made a statement this week:
“We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David’s brilliantly subversive characters.”
What are they thinking? The fans love and support of the these characters is the reason this show got renewed! Fox is ruining another show before it begins.

For those unfamiliar with his video game voice work, he also played one of television’s great characters, Captain Malcolm Reynolds, on the short-lived Firefly and its movie spinoff Serenity. He currently stars in Castle on ABC.
In this Fall’s Halo 3: ODST, Fillion goes one step further with his video game ambitions and will take on a starring role in the game as Sgt. Buck. And not only will he supply his voice to the game, but Buck’s appearance was modeled after Fillion.
